Unique once-in-a-lifetime walk on the 10,000 year old ice. An authentic adventure.
Off the beaten path. On this guided day tour walk directly onto the Matanuska Glacier. You experience and learn about glacial features such as seracs, moulons and crevasses and will be surprised at how many different types of ice there are! Crampons, helmet, and trekking pole are provided. Wear long pants and hiking boots or sturdy shoes without big heels or tennis shoes will do. Bring along a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. It can be bright out there as the ice reflects the sun. Most important, don't forget your camera! This is an unparalleled, authentic activity. Drive time is two hours each way. The lunch stop is at a rustic Alaskan lodge where you can purchase a delicious variety of soups, sandwiches and salads.

FAQ’S
WALKING:
The tour requires walking on a slippery uneven surface. The guides at the glacier will provide micro-spikes for more secure footing. These spikes stretch to fit over your boots. You will be walking and stopping to listen to the guides.
CLOTHING:
Utilize the classic layer system. Bring a light windbreaker or fleece jacket and a hat. Long pants rather than shorts are recommended. Some may feel more comfortable by bringing a light pair of gloves. In the summer, it is possible to feel hot due to the sun and the reflection on the ice AND it may feel cool due to the breezes the glacier generates. Please bring more than less. There is plenty of room for back packs and you can always leave things in the van when you go out onto the ice. You will be walking and stopping to listen to the guides.
FOOTWEAR:
We recommend light hiking boots for maximum comfort. Tennis shoes/sneakers are appropriate. Footwear must not have a heel to accommodate the micro-spikes. Dress leather boots/shoes are not appropriate. Absolutely no flip flops or sandals. The micro-spikes are very easy and natural to walk in. Once you get started, you won’t even know they are there.
OTHER THINGS TO BRING:
Sunglasses, sunscreen, camera. It can be very bright on the glacier on a sunny day. As on the beach or snow, the ice reflects the sun. It is more comfortable to wear sunglasses. Please note that sunburn on your face can occur.
WEATHER:
The tour goes out regardless of the weather conditions unless they are extreme and deemed to be unsafe by 907 Tours. Many times the weather is better at the glacier than in Anchorage. This is, of course, not a guarantee. Alaskan weather is by it’s own nature un-predictable.
PARTICIPATION:
This tour is considered to be moderate. Please assess your individual ability to be able to walk on an uneven, slippery, surface that may include moderate hills. Time on the glacier is approximately two hours. There are bathroom facilities immediately prior to hiking, but none on the glacier. There are no “bushes” on the ice. Guests in their 80’s have happily and successfully participated.
LIABILITY RELEASE:
Signing a liability release is mandatory to participate on this tour.
AGE REQUIREMENT:
Children must be 8 years of age to participate. A parent or guardian will need to sign the child’s liability release.
From start to finish this was the best experience, from reservations to the actual tour it is better then five stars, it is 10 stars!
DF Vancouver, Canada
We came away with a lot more than beautiful photos. We went in the early morning in late February when the mountains, and everything else, were covered with snow. The sunrise reflected off the snowy mountains was jaw-droppingly beautiful.
RA Los Angeles, CA
I never fully felt like I was on an official tour but more like I was being led by a close family friend.
SS Toronto, Canada
Big is not better. Small, private, and flexible is a great option and these folks do it best.
