Best value for seeing the highlights in and around Anchorage, Alaska
On this fully narrated tour, you will learn about the history of Anchorage and life here as we know it. Anchorage is a young city. It got it’s start in 1914 being chosen to be the supply point for the building of the Alaska Railroad. You visit the highlights of the city including bustling 4th Avenue and it’s connection to the Great Earthquake of 1964, Ship Creek, the railroad depot, and our crucial port area, Earthquake Park, and Lake Hood/Spenard, the largest float plane base in the world. Learn about the world-wide importance of our international airport. Leave the city behind to sightsee down the extreme tidal waters of the Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet between the rugged Chugach and Kenai mountains along the Seward Highway, one of our nation's Scenic Byways. You will learn why this is one of the most dangerous bodies of water in the world. Continue on to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Amidst 360 degree mountain terrain see and learn about our native animals such as moose, caribou or reindeer, musk ox, lynx, wolves, and wood bison in this natural setting. If you’re really lucky the brown bears could be out! Plenty of photo opportunities on this tour.

FAQ’S
WALKING:
The tour does not require much walking. Most of the time can be spent in the van. It is up to you.

At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we are able to pull up to the enclosures so that most of the animals will be visible from the large windows in our vans. There may be some times when you might like to get out for closer viewing. There is about about 200 yards on a flat walkway to see the bears. At other stops walking, is in and out of the van, mostly on flat ground. In the winter the walking surface is gravel and may be slippery as there will most likely be packed snow and ice.

At the scenic viewpoints getting out of the van is not necessary.
CLOTHING:
Utllize the classic three-layer system. Please layer with a moisture wicking fabric next to your skin (silk, “smart” wool, polypropylene or some other synthetic fiber). The middle layer will depend on the conditions, light, middle, or heavy layer which should be thicker than the base made of fleece or polyester (no cotton). The middle layer may also include a vest, sweater or light jacket. Outer layer should be the thickest and warmest a wind proof, water proof so your under layers will stay warm and dry. Jeans alone will not keep you warm. If you wear jeans, be sure to have a warm base layer. Wear insulated boots.
MOBILITY:
We understand your concerns and have had guests with mobility issues on tour with us successfully. We will seat these guests in the best place for their abilities, either in the front or near the door where the step in is not too high.
From start to finish this was the best experience, from reservations to the actual tour it is better then five stars, it is 10 stars!

We came away with a lot more than beautiful photos. We went in the early morning in late February when the mountains, and everything else, were covered with snow. The sunrise reflected off the snowy mountains was jaw-droppingly beautiful.

I never fully felt like I was on an official tour but more like I was being led by a close family friend.

Big is not better. Small, private, and flexible is a great option and these folks do it best.
